Team Spotlight: Who is Alex Fries?

Team Spotlight Alex

Whether he’s building bipartisan coalitions or shaping economic policy, Alex’s path to A10 Associates has been anything but conventional—and exactly what our clients need. As Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Alex brings over a decade of high-impact experience navigating the intersection of public and private sectors, always with one goal in mind: getting things done.

Strategic Experience from Statehouses to the White House

Before joining A10 Associates, Alex wore many hats—including helping lead a strategic communications and public affairs firm, advising former Governor Sununu of New Hampshire on state and federal policy issues, running a state economic development agency as a senior appointed official, and working for the head of confirmations on a presidential transition team in Washington, D.C. He is deeply passionate about using strategic communications to effectively articulate solutions to problems, something he has brought to political campaigns for over a decade, and a skill that was put to the test during his time spearheading economic relief messaging during the pandemic.

This diverse background gives Alex a rare ability to bridge long-term policy strategy with near-term execution, delivering actionable outcomes across state and federal landscapes.

Philosophy: Innovation Over Inertia

When asked why he pursued a career in public affairs, Alex explained:

“I grew up overseas, with neither my parents nor my grandparents being very political. I realized after I moved back to the U.S. on my own and got to college that my passion wasn’t for wielding a scalpel, but rather for finding and promoting solutions and people that enable innovation and business growth. That realization led me to public service, got me involved in campaigns, and ultimately brought me to A10. I like to think about it this way – growing up, I was the kid with a clipboard and a plan. The passion for implementing solutions is still there, I just use two iPhones now.”

It’s this mindset that drives his work with A10’s clients—particularly those operating in fast-moving sectors like technology, infrastructure, and energy.

What Sets Alex Apart

Alex is most proud of his unrelenting desire to get “stuff” done for clients—no red tape, no excuses, no matter what political party. As he says,

“The trick with public affairs is not only understanding how things are done but that there are many different ways to get there. Being able to put them together to deliver results for clients is what makes every day an exciting day to go to work.”

Fluent in English and German, and deeply experienced in cross-sector leadership, he’s uniquely equipped to work across political divides, delivering real results in complex environments.

Words to Work—and Live—By

For those just starting out in the field, his advice is empowering:

“Solutions are like mosaics, made up of many differently sized pieces. You don’t have to have a fancy title or decades of experience to have a meaningful impact. Show up and be kind and you’re two-thirds of the way there.”

The A10 Advantage

Alex’s leadership reflects everything we value at A10 Associates: grit, strategy, integrity, and a results-driven mindset. His ability to translate policy into progress makes him a powerful asset for clients—and a cornerstone of our growing public affairs team.

We’re proud to have Alex on board, and even more excited to see how his leadership helps shape the future—for our clients and for the communities we serve.
